Say Hello to Stingrays and Turtles at Glen Echo Park Aquarium

Eels, stingrays, and catfish are just a few of the sea critters living at the Glen Echo Park Aquarium. Come here any time of the year to experience the creatures that live just beyond the beach in the Chesapeake Bay. The Touch Tank is a great place to start, especially if you have little ones. They can actually stroke a horseshoe crab or pet the shell of a whelk as an aquarium employee explains more about their role in the local waters.

Elsewhere in the aquarium, you can check out the Chesapeake Blue Crab. You might best know this crustacean as a Bay-area delicacy, but it's also an animal that lives under strict legislation so as not to go extinct. Learn more about the sustainable nature of local crabbing or ogle other unusual animals like the mummichog, a nearly translucent white fist from Maryland marshes and tidal creeks. You can also stop at the science lab to look at a slide through a microscope or let little ones play in the sandbox with new friends.
