This precise practice requires proper alignment and focused breath in order to achieve relief from stress, ease aches and pains, and build stronger muscles.
Newer students should start at a lower-level class like Level 1/2 Iyengar. It's here that you'll learn the fundamental poses and breathing techniques of Iyengar, as well as attempt a few more complicated inversions once you feel comfortable. Gentle yoga is another great place to start since it moves at a slower pace and focuses on alignment and flexibility, as opposed to advanced postures. When you do want to take your practice to the next level, try a Level 2 Iyengar class.
